Laodicea means peoples opinions. This is a generation that lives and
dies by the opinions of what others think of them. We put pastors and
other leaders on pedestals and then are devastated when they fall. What
we all fail to realize is that an opinion is based on what we see and
hear, in other words, the outward appearance. As the Lord told Samuel
when anointing a new king, “man looks on the outward appearance, but God
looks at the heart. We have as a people who call themselves Christians
neglected the very thing which the Lord weighs most which is the heart.
The way of wicked people is like deep darkness. They do not know what makes them stumble.
My son, pay attention to my words. Open your ears to what I say. Do not
lose sight of these things. Keep them deep within your heart because
they are life to those who find them and they heal the whole body. Guard
your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life
flows from it. Remove dishonesty from your mouth. Put deceptive speech
far away from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead and your
sight be focused in front of you. Carefully walk a straight path, and
all your ways will be secure. Do not lean to the right or to the left.
Walk away from evil.
(Pro 4:19-27 GW)
Proverbs, 4:23 says to guard your heart more than anything else,
because the source of your life flows from it. In Psalms David
says,”Teach me, O LORD, how to live by your laws, and I will obey them
to the end. Help me understand so that I can follow your teachings. I
will guard them with all my heart”.
(Psa 119:33-34 GW)
We wonder sometimes why prayer goes unanswered, take a look at what
Psalms says about this issue, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the
Lord will not hear me(Psa 66:18 AMP)
No one being tempted should say, “I am being tempted by God.” For God
cannot be tempted by evil, and God himself tempts no one. Rather, each
person is being tempted whenever he is being dragged off and enticed by
the bait of his own desire. Then, having conceived, the desire gives
birth to sin; and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
Don’t delude yourselves, my dear brothers.
(Jas 1:13-16 CJB)
We must never loose sight of the fact that the nursery for serving
God and also doing evil is the human heart. It should not take us by
surprise when a Christian falls into sin. Although he/she may have a
very pious appearance, what is incubating in their heart will manifest
itself. Sin begins in the heart .
that which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is
light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have
fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the
truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son
cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
(1Jn 1:5-8 MKJV)
For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the
Light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices truth
comes to the Light so that his works may be revealed, that they exist,
having been worked in God.
(Joh 3:20-21 MKJV)
To walk in the light is to continually have your heart laid bare
before Christ. To walk in the light means that we have fellowship with
Jesus for God is light. And this is the message which we have heard from
Him and declare to you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at
all.
(1Jn 1:5 MKJV)
To walk in the light means that we have fellowship with one another.
To walk in the light means that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all
sin. Sin must be brought to the light in order for it to be covered by
the blood.
When Adam and Eve walked with God in the Garden, they had fellowship
with one another and with God. When they sinned, however, they lost the
ability to see because they were in darkness and they hid themselves
from one another and from God. When questioned by God as to what he had
done, Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. Neither one was able
to see his/her sin. Which is all the more reason that since we have had
the light restored to us, we must continuously walk in it.They both had
something to hide from God, they were afraid of God because they were
afraid of being found out, hence the reason they hid. We on the other
hand have been forgiven, our relationship has been restored and
therefore we must always walk in the light of his presence so that we
may continually have fellowship with him and with one another and the
blood of Jesus will cleanse us from all sin
Something else that the Lord pointed out is when Adam and Eve walked
with the Lord, they were walking in the light of God’s presence and they
were naked before him and each other. When they sinned, however, the
hid from the Lord and from each other. It is worthy of note to point out
that when they were confronted by the Lord, the accusations began.
Because when a person harbors sin in their heart they hide from the Lord
and from others but they are quick to sit in judgement of others and to
accuse others so as to deflect attention from themselves.
When we walk in the light of God’s presence we have fellowship with
God and one another because we are not trying to cover ourselves up in
order to hide our nakedness that sin causes.
When we walk in the light, nothing is able to cause us to stumble.
This kind of closeness can only happen if we choose to walk in the
light of His presence and to have our hearts willingly subject to the
light.
“Hardly anything else reveals so well the fear and uncertainty among
men as the length to which they will go to hide their true selves from
each other and even from their own eyes.”
― A.W. Tozer, That Incredible Christian
